Postal
Photo Shows! Have you ever entered or held a postal photo show, if you have you'll know what the heck I'm talking about if not let me introduce you.
A postal photo show involves individuals organising photo shows for charity via the post. Organisers create a schedule of classes that can be entered, placings being given, rosettes and prizes available, all you do is enter your picture's into the corresponding categories, pay required entry fee send of with S.A.E. and once judged you will get your S.A.E. back with results booklet, rosettes and prizes if places won, its as simple as that.
I first discovered photo shows when I joined Catsareus which is a cat club(www.catsareus.com), and I've been entering for about a year now and its great fun, not only do you get to enter your lovely photos into shows, the profits go to charity. So not only are you helping a good cause you can win lovely rosettes and prizes too.
To find out about up and coming postal shows there is a monthly magazine called Quests which advertises new shows and reviews shows held, so you can give feedback if you enjoyed a show or not. There is also a website that displays all up and coming shows which I use a lot: www.geocities.com/photoshows_uk/, you can find information about subscribing to Quests via this site also.
I
have won some lovely rosettes and prizes over time and I would really recommend
it, if your a budding photographer you will love it, there are normally lots
of categories to enter, not just animal classes either, many on scenery, action,
group, etc., which are all normally open to any subject.
A selection of some of the rosettes I have won.
I have just organised my first ever photo show which was great fun, as I had been entering them for so long I always wanted to try and organise and run a show myself. I created my schedule holding 15 classes and didn't really expect too many entries for my first show but I was overwhelmed with the response.
I had absolutely loads of lovely photos entered and it was terribly hard to judge. It was really hard work, as everything had to be organised so well, but I had so much fun I will definitely do it again, probably October time so remember to check back here for my schedule.
I had lovely rosettes and prizes to give away and managed to produce a lovely results booklet with every 1st place colour photo displayed, which everyone loved. I had some excellent feedback and everyone was great, it was lovely to see everyone's photo's. I managed to raise £50.00 for Hillside Animal Sanctuary which I thought was great for my first show. Hillside Animal Sanctuary is where unwanted and abused animals are given much needed sanctuary and they campaign to improve the lives of the millions of animals within the farming industry. Take a look at their website - www.hillside.org.uk they do excellent work. Do you have any comments or experiences with photo shows? Do you have a show coming up? E-mail me and I'll display what I can here.
Why not enter my new show on 02nd November 2003:
